First and second lesson - Talk with Buttons

Pretty had to start in a certain way

  1. we drew the list of words up to 70 or so that she uses regularly

  2. We designed a first experiment, for getting her ackainted with one button and it's substrate pad - we made a mistake not to dummy it but still it has an onomatopea that meant I want to go outside to her - when she at one moment was so excited and ran to the kitchen door, we made the mistake while being overwhelmed, not to open the door to her - instinctively she had reckonned the meaning of the button - so for this training don't specify a meaning for the button's sound or if you do, be prepared to act according to the button meaning

  3. Second lesson: after reading an excellent pdf on how to prepare "the learner", I got to unpack the buttons again (they were back in the box) and prepared this time 3 buttons. Pretty looked at me quite interested. ESPECIALLY, I recorded one of the things that excites her the most: LET'S GO GET THE MAIL! At first she didn't know what to do, she was excited, I was at the dinner table in a neutral room to her teaching, and I let her sniff the button - very important step. She got !t! "Somehow what this button has uttered must be the truth!" :) So I recorded another, third button than the onomatopea Katcheek (the sound of her claw on the door when she wants to go out) and the third one "AFTER" which she frustratingly understands. I popped the 3 buttons on the pad and went with a bowl of treats to the livingroom where we installed the buttons - and did not wait, once she had smelled the button and grabbed the treat, I pushed the button at the same time, she heard the magic sentence "LETS GO GET THE MAIL" and I concurred: yes! let's go! She was so happy! Advantage: Pretty gets overwhelmed easily by her emotions, but it also had the advantage that it triggers a strong memorization capacity.

Now she is in the livingroom lying on her preff'd coach and the buttons in view. I think since it's her resting place the most motivating spot for her in the house to get to use the buttons when she feels like it. All natural :)
