Pretty did it! 2 month and a half afterwards - button push voluntarily ! Success!!

A Milestone Achievement: Pretty’s Breakthrough with the Communication Button Today, we celebrate a monumental moment in Pretty’s journey of canine communication. After two and a half months of dedicated effort and innovative training strategies, our beloved 7-year-old British Springer Spaniel has achieved a significant milestone: successfully using a communication button to express her desire for treats.

Unlearning to Relearn: The Path to Success Our journey began with a unique challenge – unteaching Pretty her habitual response of offering a paw when asked for it. This step was crucial as it set the foundation for her to develop a new behavior: using her paw freely to interact with the communication button.

Tailoring Training to Pretty’s World We adopted a bespoke approach, starting by placing the button on the corner of a bench – a spot where Pretty habitually scratches to ask for food. Initially, we rewarded her for any interaction near the button, whether it was a nose point or a scratch. This phase was essential in building her interest and familiarity with the button.

Gradually, we evolved our strategy, encouraging Pretty to actually touch the button with her paw as a way to request treats. Once she became comfortable with this, we shifted the button to the ground near her usual spot next to the table. This move initially caused some confusion, but with patience and repeated guidance, we helped Pretty understand the new location and purpose of the button.

The “Aha” Moment: A Breakthrough Captured The transformative moment is beautifully captured in our latest video. Initially, Pretty experimented with reaching the button, almost dancing around it with her paw. But then, there was a clear “aha” moment. With a look of determination, she pressed the button – not just once, but several times, ensuring it activated. The video shows her persistence and her realization that the button was indeed the key to communicating her wishes.

Celebrating Pretty’s Triumph This breakthrough is not just a victory for Pretty; it’s a testament to the potential for learning and adaptation in dogs, regardless of their age. Pretty’s success sends an encouraging message to dog owners and enthusiasts worldwide: with the right approach and a bit of patience, our canine companions can learn new and complex ways of communicating.

Looking Ahead with Hope and Excitement As we continue this journey, we are filled with optimism for what Pretty and other dogs like her can achieve. This achievement is a stepping stone to deeper understanding and stronger bonds between humans and their canine friends.

Join us in congratulating Pretty on this remarkable achievement, a true embodiment of the adage “you can teach an old dog new tricks.” Her journey is a beacon of inspiration, showing that persistence, tailored training, and a little creativity can lead to incredible outcomes.

Stay tuned for more updates as Pretty continues to explore the world of communication, one button at a time. Her story is far from over; in fact, it’s just getting started!

Pretty's achievement truly is an inspiring milestone, showing that age is but a number when it comes to learning and growth. We look forward to sharing more of her progress in the future!
