# Pretty’s Progress: A New Button, A New Understanding

Welcome back to the Canine Communication Research (CCR) blog! Today, we’re thrilled to share a pivotal update on Pretty’s remarkable journey with the communication buttons. After her ongoing success with the “Let’s get the mail” button, Pretty has earned the opportunity to experiment with a brand-new button in her communication panel. What’s even more impressive? It seems Pretty has already grasped its meaning.

### Building on Pretty’s Success

Over the past few months, Pretty has steadily advanced in her understanding of the button system, particularly with the “Let’s get the mail” button. She’s developed such an enthusiasm for it that she would often repeatedly press it, clearly eager to carry out this task. But as with any form of learning, balance is essential, and we knew it was time to introduce a new concept: knowing when an activity is finished.

### The Introduction of the “All Done” Button

In a carefully timed moment today, Pretty’s enthusiasm for her favorite button prompted a gentle pause. As she sat attentively in front of me, her eyes filled with curiosity, I seized the opportunity to introduce a new button: **“All done now”** (or **“C’est fini maintenant”** in French).

With a calm and focused demeanor, Pretty watched as I unboxed the new button. She was immediately intrigued, her attention unwavering as I configured the button in front of her. This interaction wasn’t just about pressing a button; it was about introducing Pretty to the concept of finality in her activities, signaling when an action has been completed.

### A Moment of Understanding

What was most striking during this interaction was Pretty’s clear understanding of the process. She followed each step of the button setup with keen interest, as if acknowledging the importance of this new addition to her communication panel. After showing her the button and explaining its purpose, Pretty responded with a sense of agreement, as if she already understood the button’s role in her expanding vocabulary.

To reinforce this moment, Pretty was rewarded with a well-deserved treat—a bone from the kitchen—and her excitement was palpable. Her ability to engage with the new button so quickly is a testament to the progress she’s made over the past few months.

### A New Chapter in Canine Communication

This new “All done now” button will play an important role in Pretty’s daily routine. As we continue to refine her communication skills, this button will help her recognize when an activity is completed, offering a structured way for her to express that she’s finished with a task.

We’ve installed the new button on her panel in the living room, where Pretty has become accustomed to interacting with her existing buttons. Given her growing vocabulary and ability to understand the relationship between actions and the buttons, we are confident this new addition will further enhance her capacity to communicate.

### Looking Ahead

Pretty’s progress serves as a beacon of what’s possible with patience, innovation, and a deep bond between dogs and their trainers. The introduction of the “All done” button is a significant step forward in her communication journey, and we can’t wait to see how she incorporates it into her daily activities.

Stay tuned for more updates on Pretty’s adventures with her button panel as she continues to push the boundaries of canine communication, one button at a time!

A well-deserved sleep after the button-lesson !

Pretty’s story is a constant reminder of the incredible intelligence and adaptability that dogs possess. With each button press, we uncover new depths of her understanding, opening up new ways for her to express herself and interact with the world around her.
